Medically speaking, urethral sounding refers to inserting an object like a catheter, optical cable, or similar instruments into the urethra for urological surgery. The process helps to dilate inside strictures to provide access through the urethra and to the bladder. Medical experts use sterile metal or plastic dilators in this process. 

 

According to urologists, the following are some of the disturbing cases of persons who inserted certain peculiar objects into their bladder through the urethra and came to the trauma center for their removal. We will also address the hazards of inserting objects into the urethra. 1. Lady with a Necklace:

2. Phone Charger Cable:

It's an Indian man. He went to the healthcare physicians and informed them that he had eaten some earbuds. As a result, the physicians kept him under observation and waited to expect the earbuds would pass through his stool. Some purgatives were also given to him, but they didn’t prove successful and the man was still complaining of pain. Doctors next performed his colon endoscopy. It is a method of looking down inside of the large intestine using a fiber optic cable and a small camera attached to it. They were still unable to locate anything strange over there. Finally, they took his abdominal X-ray which revealed the true situation. He had placed a cell phone cable into his bladder through the urethra. It had coiled up and trapped over there. As a result, he had to undergo a surgical procedure to get it removed. This all took longer since that man was ashamed to inform the physicians what he had done. 

 

It is critical to remember that you should tell your healthcare physician everything that happened to you or committed by you or you know about it and it concerns your problem despite how humiliated you feel about telling it. You may be adding to the problem by not telling the physician what you have done. You must inform your doctor so that he can assist you. There is another similar account of a high school student who was conducting some experiments. He withdrew a mobile phone charging cable and put it in his urethra, where it was entangled within the bladder. In the trauma center, the surgeons succeeded to pull it out without his visiting the OT by using lubricating agents and cautious handling, avoiding medical procedures. 

 

3. Magnetic Metal Beads: 

Another account has been published in various journals. It describes a guy responsible for placing small metal beads which were also magnetic, inside his urethra. He continued placing these metal beads in his pee hole until he placed nearly 40 or 50 droplets in his urethra but when he attempted to withdraw them he realized that it was not possible since they were attracted to one another forming a magnetized cluster in the bladder. Since it was a very difficult instance for a specialist doctor, it was reported in the medical literature. There are nearly fifteen more similar instances found in medical journals wherein people got small magnetic steal beads trapped in their bladder or urethra. It’s quite a challenging situation for a specialist doctor since each steal bead is required to be removed separately and not all at once. Being a steal magnet they are strongly attracted to one another. In the bladder, they can form a large cluster of magnetic beads and cannot be pulled out as they did with the above-mentioned guy. Thus, it's quite difficult when a similar object is trapped in the bladder or urethra. To reach the bladder, an incision in the abdomen may be required. Furthermore, in such a case, it may become necessary sometimes to insert a camera into the urethra or to make a cut into the perineum which means the region between the anus and scrotum, for reaching the device that might have been stuck in the bladder. 

 

4. Urethral Sounding, The Reasons: 

The most common causes people put certain objects in their urethra is to gain a kind of enjoyment associated with sex. Psychological excitement may also be involved while they insert an object into the urethra however in all cases they are enjoying this practice. You might be thinking how normal this is. The answer is in the following two main studies on this topic. In one study nearly two thousand males took part. They had been having sexual interactions only with guys. They were asked about their interest in putting anything in their urethra ever in life. It was discovered that nearly ten percent of those men had attempted urethral sounding in the past. In another research, nearly four hundred guys were examined who had done body piercing of their genitalia and had sexual relations with either females or males or both. It was discovered that nearly twenty-four percent of the participants had sometimes in the past attempted to put an object in their urethra. 5. The Dangers:

Their use is harmless since there is a proper system set up to keep them safe from becoming entangled or trapped in the urethra or bladder. Aside from that, you must also confirm and verify that these equipment are disinfected through hot water of not less than 100 degrees Celsius or boiling and afterward insert them only when they are cold enough. You should also use newly manufactured lubes and apply them to this equipment before use. You should not use lubes which have been left open on your bedside table for an extended period since they may have accumulated a large number of germs and microbes. Normally small pack of lubes which are available only for one-time use may be a better option.
